Rating: 5 out of 5 Rufus are a can't-miss experience! by Emily on 8/18/23. ![]() ![]() RÜFÜS DU SOL relocated to Los Angeles in 2016, and the two albums that followed their move, 2016's Bloom and 2018's Solace, showcased their growth as songwriters and sonic explorers, keeping their beats steady while expanding the universe surrounding them. While they wouldn't win a trophy until 2015, when the single "You Were Right" picked up the Best Dance Release award, the nominations established them as one of Australia's most renowned electronic acts. 1 on the Australian Albums Chart while garnering them multiple ARIA Award nominations. RÜFÜS DU SOL's full-length debut, Atlas, came out in 2013 and went to No. Their 2012 EP Blue included the brooding "This Summer" and featured eclectic production touches like a five-cent coin being used as a guitar pick. Two tracks from the album, the thumping "Paris Collides" and the swirling "We Left," were embraced by music blogs. RÜFÜS DU SOL took the "new year, new you" mandate seriously on New Year's Day 2011, when they released their debut EP, Rüfüs. That kicked off a nearly decade-long partnership that has taken the trio around the world playing house-influenced bangers for delighted crowds. When a 2010 vacation day in Byron Bay, Australia, was plagued by rain, the trio decided to use their time inside to write a song. The three men who make up RÜFÜS DU SOL started playing music together by chance. Case in point: their 2019 Coachella performance of the song "Underwater" was accompanied by a 360-degree visual work helmed by master video director James Frost. Their musicianship and stunning stage setup gives audiences a brand-new understanding of even their most familiar songs. Tyrone Lindqvist, Jon George and James Hunt operate as a three-piece band, a setup that allows them to expand and contract their undulating songs in thrilling ways - drum solos, locked-in jamming, extended intros and outros. This comes on the heels of the announcement of the release of their SOLACE remixed album, due out September 6, almost a year after its original release in fall 2018.The Australian electro act RÜFÜS DU SOL can fill massive venues and their stage show reimagines their catalog accordingly. Rüfüs Du Sol's tour goes through October where it will culminate with a show at the Los Angeles State Park. The crowd in Brooklyn didn't seem to mind the show's similarities, with the house remaining at capacity through the show's end. While Rüfüs's set design and set list might have felt uncannily familiar to those in attendance who had seen their tour that ran in North America last fall, the group still captivates on stage and operates in a lane of their own. As the venue packed further, the crowd spread across the Mirage's signature balconies and viewing areas, allowing for a view of the Manhattan skyline as well as the show on stage. The German ambient electronica artist Steffen Linck, known professionally as Monolink, primed the crowd with his unique brand of live electronic performance, heightened by the power it brings performing as a solo artist on stage. Earlier in the tour, the guys brought artists like Bob Moses, The Acid, Lastlings and Willaris.K along for the ride, but for NYC attendees, Monolink was there for support. The Australian electronic trio sold out each of the three nights at the 6,000 person venue, with tickets going for resale up to $200 ahead of the weekend's shows. Rüfüs Du Sol continued on the latest leg of their North American tour by hitting New York's Brooklyn Mirage this past weekend for a three night long stint. ![]()
